What are my options now that I have been sued by Eskanos & Adler for $2888?
I was making regular payments to Eskanos & Adler for a debt from Midland Credit Management. When I was served and told to appear in court at the end of the month I called them to find out what was going on. They sent me some “paperwork” and told me that if I just signed it, our payment arrangements would continue and they would drop the case. So I signed it and 45 days later a judgement was issued against me.
They took all of my money out of my checking account and tried to garnish my wages. Luckily, I had just given my two-week notice and will be working for my previous employer on a contract basis so they can no longer garnish. However, I’ve read in other postings about how dirty this company is and I’m concerned that even if I pay the debt I’ll have a really hard time getting them to update my credit report.
Now I realized that I should have just gone to court and asked them to prove the debt, but it’s a little late for that.
What are my options?
