I live in NJ but I own a home in PA. I have rented the house in PA to a family. The rent they pay me dosnt cover the full cost of the mortgage so I have to pay a additional 300+ monthly. Over the past year I was laid off from my job and will have to pay income taxes on my unemployment. I am concerned about claiming the rent as income and being taxed even more. How does this work? Do I have to claim this as income & will I owe more money even tho I dont make money on the house? I was also wondering what I would need to bring to the tax office other then my mortgage tax docs?
