Is buying a hud listed home worse & more time consuming then buying a foreclosure from a bank?

Is buying a hud listed home worse & more time consuming then buying a foreclosure from a bank? We just got an offer accepted on a hud listing last week but i have no knowledge of hud. Is buying from hud not as good as buying a foreclosure from a bank? It seems like we should be in escrow already, does this process always take longer with hud? What about escrow, we asked for 45 days does hud usually close pretty quick? If it helps any we found out exactly a week ago (last monday) that our offer was excepted
