I have a small debt that will fall off my report this Dec. Not realizing this, I agreed over the phone yesterday to a debt settlement. The collection agency said that they will call me back once they verify with my bank that the account number I gave them is accurate and then the payment is scheduled to go through this Wed. I no longer wish to pay them if possible (so it will just fall off), but I’m worried that if I stop the payment I can be sued. 2 credit bureaus told me that the debt goes off my report in Dec. regardless of whether I pay or not, but I’m worried the Statute of Limitations is what starts over and the collection agency can now sue me and collect if I don’t pay. Can they? What exactly starts over in 7 years? I live in TX, btw…
