Do I Still Owe A Debt If My Creditor Doesn’t Accept American Money?
I went to to a Credit Union to pay off a $ 750 balance on a personal note.
The woman said, “we don’t take cash.”
I said that they have to take cash because it states on the bills “This note is legal tender for ALL DEBTS, public and private.”
She said they take checks or money orders, but not US dollars. I found that ludicrious and asked for the manager. He reiterated what the cashier said.
I asked for something in writing that states that I attempted to pay, but they don’t take US dollars. He laughed and told me to come back with a money order.
Do I still owe the Credit Union since I attempted to repay a loan that was made in US dollars, but they refuse to accept payment in US dollars?
