I had an Aspire Visa card back in 2007, it went to collection but in 2009 I pay it off through a collections agency. I have been working diligently to get things removed from my credit because I plan on buying a house soon. Three weeks ago I get a summons that I will have a $1200.00 judgment slapped on my credit if I didn’t pay so I immediately started to panic. Long story short it was an attorney’s office that purchased the Aspire Visa debt and was attempting to collect. It took me a while to track down my records of payment of this debt from more than two years ago to another agency so the issue will be cleared up soon. My question is can a debt that has already been paid be bought with an attempt to make the debtor pay again? Can I sue the second agency/attorney’s office for this?
