I’m living in my first home and currently have a interest only mortgage which I’m locked into for 2 years, but I am looking to change to a mortgage where I start to pay of some of the capital on the loan. Can anybody offer me any advice on any good mortgage offers currently on the market or anywhere where I can get hold of good inpartial advice.

Thanks

you could switch to repayment mortgage or ask your current lender if you can make overpayments. You need to talk to an independent mortgage adviser. Depending where you live in country I can give you a phone number of one

Royal Bank of Scotland do a brilliant repayment fixed rate mortgage. I got it at 4.75% which is incredibly low for a fixed rate (but obviously I’ll only get this for two years, I’ll change it then). You may not get it at this rate now but you can try as I got mine at the beginning of this month. If they won’t do it, keep looking, you will find something. Good luck.

well something tells me you have a prepayment penalty on that loan and you did not have the best credit while getting in. If you dont have good credit, you’ll find the fixed loans to be a lot more expensive. If you have above a 680 fico though, a fixed rate is a good idea.
You can always pay more if your stuck. Make an extra $ 50 dollars per 100k borrowed and you’ll do about the same over the next two year.
